A summary of the Adventures of Tony Millard?

Tony is as much an adventurer as he is a wizard! The story unfolds in a universe full of adventure, friendship, mystery and discovery. Throughout the three volumes, the saga oscillates between magic, modern technology, artificial intelligence and even a hint of video games!

It all begins in the corridors of Cheffoy High School of Witchcraft, before soaring to distant horizons, far from books and magical formulae. An exhilarating quest in a world as real as our own, where everything hinges on the present moment. The final, epic confrontation is just one of the thrilling stages of this breathtaking journey.

Adopting a decidedly modern style, that of contemporary low fantasy, I have taken great care to make the story as realistic and consistent with today's society as possible, be it the technology, the locations or the passage of time. Every detail aims to be as believable and immersive as possible, yet always focused on pure adventure and friendship.

What was his experience of the writing process?

It was an incredibly exciting experience! The first volume was my very first novel; I lacked reference points, and the beginning was somewhat hesitant. The plot was clear in my head, but I struggled to find the right way to put it on paper. My vision of the story was very cinematic, and since I don't appreciate overly detailed descriptions, I opted for a simple writing style. This allowed each reader the freedom to imagine the story in their own way.

The birth of my first novel wasn't entirely smooth, and although I have some reservations about certain aspects, I have excellent memories of it. I decided to use artificial intelligence as a tool to improve certain passages of my text. While the AI can't yet write a complete and realistic story, it was incredibly useful for rephrasing sentences, resulting in a smoother and more balanced final text. However, I am the sole creator of 100% of the story! Overall, the entire writing process for the three volumes has been extremely rewarding.

A summary of book 1?

If I had to summarize this first volume, I would say that it serves primarily as an introduction to the magical universe I wanted to reveal. The first half of the book takes its time, allowing the reader to explore this universe, meet its characters, and grasp certain unique concepts. While this setup is essential, it's not until the middle of the novel that the plot really takes off.

I am aware that modern writing tends to captivate the reader from the very first pages, with a relentless succession of betrayals and twists. My intention, however, is different. This first volume, while promising adventure, is primarily intended to create a calm, escapist atmosphere in which the reader can slowly be drawn into the discovery of this universe.

His feelings while writing the other two books of the saga?

The second volume was the most fun to write because I had no limits to the adventures I wanted my characters to have. Being passionate about ancient civilizations, I had an incredible experience writing a story that crosses Machu Picchu! In my eyes, it's the most accomplished book, combining rhythm, action, and exoticism, all in a much more refined literary style than the first volume.

As for the third and final volume, I took great pleasure in bringing this saga to a close. Writing the ending was especially easy because it was the part of the story I had been thinking about for years. I knew exactly where I was going, what had to happen, when, where and with whom... The biggest challenge with this last volume was the pacing. It's very fast paced, in keeping with the dire situation the young wizards find themselves in. I tried to slow it down at certain points to give the reader a breather, but I didn't want to weigh down the story just to add pages. And organizing a video game session while the world is collapsing didn't seem very natural...

The characters?

Creating the characters, imagining their personalities, and bringing them to life through improbable interactions was a truly enriching process. Every time I wrote about Ratouille the raccoon, I couldn't help but smile or even laugh at his terrible jokes!

Regarding the romance, I decided not to delve too deeply into it, as there are already many books devoted to it. As for the mechanical animals, I was eager to incorporate this concept, influenced by my experience in the technology field as a quality assurance specialist. However, I developed it less than I had originally planned when I started the saga.

Translations in several languages?

Without a substantial budget, it's a real challenge...but an essential step in getting valuable feedback on my books. To lay the groundwork, I have a good command of professional English, but not literary English. For all other languages, I had only vague knowledge, except for German, which I studied briefly in school.

All translations were done using artificial intelligence, because I quickly realized that the tool was more accurate when it took into account the context of each word. I then adapted certain passages (riddles, jokes, etc.) for each language and edited the English file with specialized software for spelling, grammar, and repetitions. Finally, I retranslated everything back into French to make sure nothing important was missing and that the story remained true to its original meaning. It was a time-consuming process, but the result is perfectly readable, though I admit it can sometimes be too literal.

Will there be a sequel?

I'm not planning a direct sequel to this saga. However, I would like to revisit these characters and delve deeper into certain themes, such as mechanical animals or Ratouille's origins. But I don't have any new books planned in the near future.
